Asus W2P HD DVD laptop
Gone are the days when Laptops were limited to basic computing functionality. Current line of laptops can just about do anything. Asus today just proved that with the announcement that it is going to update its W2 mobile multimedia notebooks with its latest addition, the W2P notebook. Probably update is an understatement when you look at the scheme of things!
Building on its W2J model, the W2P model gets a Merom' Core 2 Duo processors, both 4MB L2 and 2MB L2 versions. And if that's not all, it also adds ATI's new Mobility Radeon X1700 chip and a HD DVD drive with HDMI output. Weighing around 3.3kg, it will sport a WUXGA 1,920 x 1,200 display driven by the ATI GPU, which is connected to 256MB of GDDR 3 video memory. Believe me folks, that's some serious graphics! And all this will be backed up by 2GB of dual-channel DDR 2 SDRAM as well.
The W2P will come loaded with Windows XP Media Center Edition, containing a hybrid analogue and digital TV tuner. It can feed an HD TV through its HDMI port and has an on-board HDCP support as well. Also the Dolby-certified sound system is routed through the chassis' four main speakers and a sub-woofer. On the connectivity side it will include 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi, USB2.0 and Bluetooth 2.0. No word on the pricing and availability as yet, but we will keep you informed on this behemoth from Asus.
