Apple's new iPod: Now Serving Video
It's finally here - the new Apple iPod with video. For days, rumor mills were agog with what news Apple would be unveiling, when Steve Jobs sent out a "One more thing..." e-mail to a privileged few. Two colors of the new iPod made the cut - a white one and a black one, the black looking sexier than the other.
The new iPod comes in two capacities, 30GB and 60GB, with the 60GB holding up to 15,000 songs or 25,000 photos or - get this - 150 hours of video on a 2.5" display 320x240 pixel TFT display. An impressive 20 hours of battery life (60GB version) packaged in a much thinner casing. And you are not confined to the small screen too: with the optional Dock, you can watch the videos (or photo slideshows if you like) on your television. Man, that's excellent.
The usual iPod features - syncing contacts, calendars and to-do lists - have been retained, with USB charging and sync, compatible with Mac OS X and Windows 2000/XP. The Click Wheel interface allows easy one-handed, nay one-thumb operation to access any of your stored collections. With the Click Wheel, you won't have to take your eyes off the screen.
Apple also unveiled a new version of iTunes, the iTunes 6, now providing the option of buying over 2,000 music videos, 6 short films from Pixar and 5 television shows from ABC and Disney Channel, including "Lost" and "Desperate Housewives" for a start. If you're thinking who would pay $1.99 to watch music videos on a tiny screen - I'd advise you buy the new iPod first and give it a try.
Priced at US $299 (30GB) and US $399 (60GB), the new iPod is available online at Apple Store.
