Acer launched the new Acer TravelMate 6460 laptop equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, calling it a Desktop Replacement model. Targeted at corporate and medium-sized companies, the TravelMate 6460 comes with dual-channel DDR2 memory and faster SATA hard drive running at 5400 rpm.
A host of security features have been built in, including Anti Theft technology that sends out warning signals when the system is being moved. In order to protect the hard drive from physical impacts, the Acer Gravisense technology detects sudden motions of the notebook and in such an event automatically retracts the disk heads to avoid surface scratching.
Acer SmartCard and integrated fingerprint reader offer additional layers of security to the TravelMate 6460. Connectivity options are aplenty, with WLAN, WPAN, Gigabit Ethernet and the good old modem. An Acer OrbiCam is mounted on the LCD panel providing for convenient video conferencing.
A 15.4" widescreen display is available on the TravelMate 6460. Thanks to the hot-swappable Acer MediaBay, you can install additional MediaBay modules like an extra hard drive or DVD SuperMulti drive. While the laptop comes preinstalled with Windows XP Professional Edition, it is branded Vista Ready. Prices start at US $1,699.99.
