acer_aspire_9800.jpgTis the season of the notebooks talalalaaa. Sorry for the impromptu rendition of the Xmas classic but seriously guys, companies all over are announcing new cutting edge notebooks. The latest to join the bandwagon is the Acer Aspire 9800 which would be the first 20-inch screen notebook to hit the market and features a state of the art HD-DVD drive. The Acer 9800 aspires (pun unintended) to be a complete multimedia centre too.

The notebook is expected to weigh around 15-pounds or probably more and features a 20.1-inch screen size CrystalBrite colour TFT LCD display (WSXGA+ resolution of 1680 x 10500. Acer has included the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 GPU with up to 256MB dedicated video memory and an Intel Core Duo processor for animated imagery and cutting edge functionality. Not just a standard laptop, it includes a built-in TV tuner, a HD-DVD drive and an 1.3-megapixel web cam. There is a DVI port to hook up to an HDTV and is HDCP compliant. The Acer Aspire 9800 would also ship with an optional DVD±R/RW drive with dual-layer support and includes a 5-in-1 card reader that supports the most common card formats.

Some other configurations seen on the Acer 9800 includes; DVI-D connectivity, 3-Watt speakers and a 4-Watt subwoofer, Hard Drive storage of up to 240GB, Built-in Bluetooth 2.0 module, LAN and WLAN (with Acer InviLink 802.11b/g Wi-Fi CERTIFIED solution, supporting Acer SignalUp wireless technology). No word on pricing yet but it should start shipping by May end.
