17-inch Apple MacBook Pro Now AvailableThe 17-inch Apple MacBook Pro is out! Claiming to be as much as five times faster than the PowerBook G4, the 17" Mac Book Pro is housed in an aluminum casing that's just 1" thin and weighs 6.8 pounds.

The new MacBook Pro also features the popular MagSafe power adapter and is bundled with iSight, so you are all set for video conferencing right out of the box. Of course, the package wouldn't be complete without a Front Row and the Apple Remote. Boasting Intel's 2.16GHz Core Duo processor, this notebook is definitely the one for you, if you are into big screens.

According to Philip Schiller, SVP of Worldwide Product Marketing at Apple, "The 17-inch MacBook Pro delivers the speed and screen area of a professional desktop system in the world's best notebook design.". A new system architecture, upping the FSB to 667MHz (nearly 4 times as fast as PowerBook G4) and compatible 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM make it a joy to work with.

Other bundled goodies include:

  • iChat AV
  • iLife '06
  • Photo Booth

iLife '06 includes iPhoto, iMovie HD, iDVD and GarageBand. One of the newly added applications to iLife is iWeb, making it easier than before to create websites with photos, blogs and podcasts, and publish your content on .Mac.

Front Row is another big attraction on the new MacBook Pro - allowing you to access and enjoy your digital library of audio/video, conveniently with the touch of a button on the Apple Remote - right from iTunes playlists to iPhoto libraries. Apple's Sudden Motion Sensor ensures that the hard drive does not take the brunt during a fall, while the MagSafe power adapter safely disconnects from the notebook when the power cord is strained - quite useful if you are the clumsy type.

A juicy ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 PCI Express graphics (with 256MB of GDDR3 memory) ensures you will never go back to your drab PC again. Other essentials include integrated Bluetooth 2.0+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), three USB 2.0 ports, optical and digital I/O, AirPort Extreme 54Mbps 802.11g wireless networking, a FireWire 800 port and a FireWire 400 port.

Bundled with Mac OS X 10.4.6 "Tiger", the new 17-inch MacBook Pro from Apple carries a whopping US $2,799 price tag. Access Apple for more details, and the extended entry for the feature list.
