LTE stands for Long Term Evolution and by now most of us have gotten used to it. It’s what 3G wants to be when it will grow up. According to a study, in five years from now, in 2013, 32 million people will get an LTE device and plan. How does that sound?

Three top mobile operators around the world have announced LTE development. China Mobile, Vodafone and Verizon Wireless are planning to make LTE part of their future. The guys that predict all this LTE action are from ABI Research. They further predicted that the Asia Pacific region will have about 12 million LTE subscribers while Europe and North America will split the remaining 20 million 60-40%.

What’s more interesting is China. Their 3G network really sucks. First of all they don’t really have it, and they might not even get it. Might as well jump to LTE insead of investing millions of dollars for a 3G network deployment. That’s just sad.

LTE will be more about data then voice, so manufacturers will develop hardware solutions for computers and MID. Cable and DSL will surely be affected by LTE networks as more and more people will opt for newer faster technology.

But until then we can complain about bad LTE coverage, we’re going to stick to 3G for now
