Mary Lou Jepsen, OLPC’s ex-Chief Technology Officer has recently launched “Pixel Qi.” The company’s aim is to come up with a laptop that would retail for USD$75. Yep, no zeros are missing from that figure, folks. Jepsen says that the company plans to commercialize the low-cost screen she has designed for the OLPC foundation. If and when the plan does succeed, this could mean something entirely new for electronics consumer industry. Digital cameras, cellphones and more laptops might be within reach of individuals in the lower socio-economic status. The result? A much wider exposure to technology. It’ll be interesting how Pixel Qi would affect the electronic consumer market in the future.
