The last time we mentioned Pharos devices, it was to talk about the Traveler 177 and 127, but they have released a new handset codenamed on the Traveler line, codenamed 619. The popular cellphone with GPS costs $199,95 and is already available for purchase at Dell’s website.
Sporting a 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen, the device has a full QWERTY keyboard and a 2-megapixel camera. The operative system used on the Traveler 619 is Windows Mobile 6, while the network options include quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, and 3.5 support.
In the wireless connectivity department, it boasts bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and IrDA. The battery life is 4 hours on talking-mode, or 200 hours in stand-by.

We apologize for any confusion, inconvenience caused by the discrepancies between the device overview and the actual device specifications.
Traveler 619 is an entry-level unlocked 2.5G smartphone with touch-screen QVGA (320×240) display. It is designed for mobile field workers who want slightly larger QWERTY keyboard and screen (2.8″ instead of 2.5″). The device measures 4.92 in(L) x 2.8 in(W) x 0.61 in(H) and 6.49 oz. So, it is not as compact and sleek as Traveler 127.
Anyone who purchased Traveler 619, please contact Pharos customer support at 888-PHAROS-8 (888-742-7678) if you want to return the product.
Again, please accept our apology for any trouble that we might have caused.
Hi, James:
I’m little bit confused about the GPS functionality on Pharos 619 (or, any other smartphones claimed having GPS). Do I have to pay a monthly premium (say, $10/month) to my wireless provider (say, AT&T) to get this GPS functional ? Or, I don’t have to pay anything (just like those dedicated GPS devices, e.g., Garmin nuvi 250w) to use the GPS ????
Bottomline question: do I have to pay (to my wireless provider a monthly fee in addition to my monthly wireless phone fee, I have no data-plan.) to get this GPS function on Pharos 619 to be useful ?
Thanks !
Hi Dung:
Thanks for your interest in 619. The 619 comes with Microsoft Live Search which offers you map, route, gps guidance (no voice prompts), traffic, weather, gas price, movie information for free. You need data plan to access these services. The 619 is not a fashion phone; it is a little big designed for people who prefer to have more space among keys. If you are interested in 619, please call our customer support manager, Natalie, and tell her that I promised you free Smart Navigator software (our CES 2009 Innovations award-winning GPS software) with entire US map on a 2GB mini SD card for your purchase of 619. The Smart Navigator will turns the 619 into a full-feature GPS navigation device (like 250w).
Hi James,
I purchased the Pharos 619 from a retailer. I was disappointed that the 619 did not have GPS software. Does your offer to Dung about the free Smart Navigator Software on the mini SD card also apply to me and others?
Please let us know.
Thanks!
This was the worst PHONE EVER! I had just received it and I tried conecting to the internet and using the GPS that never caught signal. THE Internet though fluctuated. I am so dissapointed with this phone. I will never buy any phone from Pharos. In many ways it is true, you get what you pay for.

Hi James
I have seen the posts about the pharos 619 and I have tried to get the GPS feature to work on my phone too, to no avail. I see that you offered a person, Dung, a 2GB card with the Smart Navigator Software at no charge.
I, like Jose, want to know whether that offer applies to others of us that bought the Pharos phone. I was under the impression when I chose the Pharos phone that it DID have a working GPS unit and would like to get my GPS feature working also, rather than return the unit to Pharos.
It would probably be cheaper for Pharos to give those of us the SD cards that are interested in keeping our phones in spite of the fact that the phone was advertised to have features that it does not have.
Thanks,

RE: The Pharos 619 SD card with the GPS Software
that James from Pharos mentioned in this thread.
Jose,
I have the Pharos 619 phone also and was curious like you as to whether the offer for the SD card was specifically for Dung Kong or if it applied to other people that purchased the phone and also would like to have the GPS software too. Let me share with you what I discovered.
I went to the Pharos homepage and found the “contact us” section and sent in an email mentioning that I had the phone and that I had seen a gentleman, James on mobilewhack that offered another Pharos 619 owner an SD card for the GPS function. I told her that I liked the phone, but I would love to have the GPS working.
Within 24 hours after sending in the email, I received a reply from “Natalie” (the lady James mentioned to contact in his reply to Dung Kong) and she told me she would need to see a copy of my Pharos 619 receipt as proof of purchase. To me, since they provided my SD card at absolutely no charge, it is reasonable to request that the consumer provide proof of purchase of the Pharos 619.
I attached a copy of my receipt to the reply email and she examined it and asked for a contact phone number. She called and verified the name and address on my receipt and told me that she would send one out to me A.S.A.P. She was very nice and helpful to me.
Indeed, in less than two weeks from original contact, I received the SD card from Pharos and the instructions of how to install the card. The phone was fun before, but now I absolutely love it!
Bottom line is I found Natalie to be exceptionally kind, polite, very helpful and reliable. The GPS card is worth finding your receipt and emailing Pharos ( My experience was pleasant, no hassles or run around treatment at Pharos)
I appeciate Pharos for what they did and next time I again have an opportunity, I will show Pharos how much I appreciate the fabulous customer care by putting my money where my mouth is and purchasing Pharos products!
Good Luck

Hi Carla,
Thanks so much for your advice. I did as you did, and Pharos took care of me. With the working GPS, I ordered the Pharos 619 Car Kit available from their website (I can’t wait until it arrives). I’m loving this device more than ever. Thank so much for your help.

No luck on the SD card with Smart Navigator.
I called the 888 number of Customer Support and the
person on the line IM’d Natalie and then told me the
offer was over. I was offered a discount for it when I register the device. $99 down to 59.99. I’m retired
and can ‘t do it. Having just purchased the device
I my return it to the retail store now if Live Search
isn’t adequate for my needs. Boo-Hoo!
