Pantech Ease Cell Phone Review–Starts Simple, Ends Elsewhere

By Steve Anderson - 07/07/2010 12:01:56 AM

The folks out at Wirefly sent me a Pantech Ease to try out and review, and as a result, I’m reconsidering most everything I’ve heard about cell phones.  Read on.

The Pantech Ease is a slider-style cell phone that boasts Bluetooth connectivitiy, touch screen, speakerphone, GPS, mobile web, mobile email, a variety of messengers including text, picture, multimedia and instant, a two megapixel camera, a thousand entry phone book, a battery that yields five hours of talk time on a single charge and a variety of AT&T specific applications, including AT&T Mobile Music and AT&T Mobile Video.

Now, here’s where it gets interesting–the Pantech Ease offers two different operating modes: Easy Mode and Advanced Mode.  Using Easy Mode shows you all your phone’s options on one home screen, and you only get two shortcuts, one to the main menu and the other to the phone dialer.  Plus, you get two new options–the pedometer and the pill reminder function.  Advanced Mode, meanwhile, steps up the difficulty and the resulting utility.

Basically, the Pantech Ease boasts, in the words of the commercial, an easy button.

While you don’t get a whole lot of features with this, this is great for people starting out in cell phones.  You can even start easy and work your way up to competence, which is definitely a unique feature.  So if you’re looking for something new, you might want to give the Pantech Ease a look.  Wirefly, by the way, is selling these at $249.99 as of this writing, unless you’re a new or existing AT&T customer, then they’re free.

The Good

Possibly a free phone

Incredible ease of use

Expandable as needed

The Bad

A slim number of base features

Somewhat low end components

Score 7 / 10
