23 Jan 09 Palm vs Apple! Fight!

Once the Palm Pre arrives we’re going to see it battle Apple for the cell phone supremacy. Will we see them fight each other in court too?

During Apple’s performance report Tim Cook said Apple is more than ready to face off competition. Apple will go to court too if its intellectual property will be at risk:

We like competition as long as they don’t rip off our IP. And we’re going to go after anybody that does.

While not referring straight to Palm’s Pre, Cook’s statement surely made a point clear. And it looks like Palm felt threatened by it. A company spokesperson said:

Palm has a long history of innovation that is reflected in our products and robust patent portfolio, and we have long been recognized for our fundamental patents in the mobile space. If faced with legal action, we are confident that we have the tools necessary to defend ourselves.

So shall we take any bets then? Will we see Apple and Palm go to trial over multitouch or any other common parts of their smartphones? Time will tell!
