When the Palm Pre was first released its 500MHz processor was adequate. However, compared to new mobile processors like the 1GHz Snapdragon, 500MHz seems like a snails pace. Luckily, the hacking community has come in and figured out how to overclock the stock Palm Pre/Palm Pre Plus processor to 800MHz. That’s a 300MHz increase, for you math majors out there.
Of course, the modder reports a pretty hefty decrease in battery life in addition to the phone getting quite hot but that’s to be expected.
Get information on how to do this over at PreCentral. But remember, do so at your own risk.

I recently overclocked mine using Preware’s Govnah overclocking app and the new UberKernel (which gives Govnah the option to go as high as 800mhz).
So far, no problems at all. In fact, I have it set to adjust speed using ScreenState (screen on = higher speed; screen off = lower speed). When my screen is off, the phone is UNDERclocked to 125mhz, to help save battery life and keep the phone nice and cool. When the screen is off, it’s running at the swift 800mhz.
There was a big speed improvement on my Palm Pre Plus, and the phone really doesn’t get that hot or kill the battery much quicker with use imo. Very happy I took the chance and tried it.
PS: Reliability is still excellent even overclocked also
