When first released it was generally accepted that the Palm Pre was quite the capable device. Unfortunately due to the lack of reception from consumers, the Palm Pre never really got the spot light it deserve ultimately leading to Palm getting bought out by HP.

However, when compared to more modern day devices, the Palm Pre’s 600 MHz processor underclocked to 500 MHz may seem lackluster considering devices like the HTC EVO 4G and iPhone 4 feature 1GHz processors.

Luckily, hackers have been hard at work remedying this problem for the Palm Pre and have managed to over clock the device’s processor to an astonishing 1.2GHz. The work is done by a hacker by the name of unixpsycho who actually managed to push the Palm Pre to 1GHz prior to this announcement.

The new 1.2GHz clock speed is thanks to unixpsycho’s SR71 Blackbird custom kernel. However, if you’re willing to get down on this upgrade make note that this is in no way endorsed or supported by Palm. Seeing how the device is only supposed to be clocked around 600MHz, you’re literally doubling the clock speed which could potentially lead to bricking, overheating and who knows what else. Not to mention your battery will probably last a fraction of what it is.
