Nokia Announces Widget Support for S60
Nokia now includes widget support for the S60. The Nokia S60 will be the first mobile software platform that allows the creation of widgets. With the widget support, users can enhance the Internet experience on a mobile by bringing a personal Web experience to their device.
Widgets are lightweight Web applications that allow people to personalize Internet content and stay up to date with the things that matter to them. Widgets have been around on PCs for awhile, but with the Web Run-time Web application development environment creation of widgets and other web applications for mobile handsets are possible using standards including Ajax, JavaScript, CSS, and html.
Web Run-Time and widget support will be available to Nokia S60 licensees with the S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2. Tools, documentation and a software developer kit for widget development available during the third quarter of 2007 via Forum Nokia.
