Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Cell Phone Review–Terrific Phone

By Steve Anderson - 06/07/2010 12:01:24 AM

The folks out at Puremobile sent me a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic to review, and I have to admit, I’m downright tickled with this thing.

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is a candy bar-style smartphone with touchscreen controls, speakerphone, built-in stereo speakers, voice recorder, conference call capability, mobile email, mobile web, Java application capability, text messaging, MPEG-4 video player, a couple game demos, a 3.2 megapixel camera with video shooting capability, alarm clock, calendar, calculator, GPS navigation, and a battery that will yield nine hours of talk time on a single charge.

The focus is clearly music–they’ve got “music” right in the name, for crying out loud–so let’s take a look at what the music part of this setup has to offer.  It actually came with thirteen music tracks, everything from big names (Your  Body is a Wonderland from celebrity philanderer John Mayer) to names that used to be big (Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong from the Spin Doctors) and everything in between.  And I’ll tell you this–the sound quality is FANTASTIC.  I played every track, and it was terrific–like having an MP3 player with a great set of speakers, all in this little phone.

Admittedly, the phone is a little bulky (I was convinced it folded or slid or something, but no, it was solid), but the touchscreen and the sheer variety of options more than made up for the size.  The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is a fantastic phone that’s easily on par with some of the better models.

The Good

Terrific sound

Loads of options

The Bad

Extremely bulky

Score 8 / 10
