A new Nokia wanders into my sights today, folks, so let’s go ahead and have a look at it.  Nokias are a bit middle of the road as far as quality goes–I’ve seen them turn out really well and I’ve seen them go pretty badly.  Today’s Nokia, the Nokia 2720, will do a decent job of providing quality, but not without some issues.

The Nokia 2720 (also called the Fold, likely owing to its folder-style design) offers Bluetooth connectivity, voice recorder, conference call capability, speakerphone, mobile web, mobile email, Java application capability, text messaging, a 1.3 megapixel digital camera with 4x digital zoom and a self-timer delay so you can take pictures of yourself without rear facing camera or arm gymnastics, alarm clock, calculator, video recording, FM radio, music player, a phone book with sufficient space for five hundred contacts and a battery capable of yielding five hours of talk time on a single charge.

It’s a basic phone, admittedly, but not without some nifty extras that pull it just out of the bargain basement and get it within striking distance of the main floor.  The Nokia 2720 is nothing great, but it’s not a bad phone.  I’m not terribly happy about the key layout, and the keys seem a little slick, but these are comparatively minor problems.

If you’re looking for a bare-bones cell phone with just a couple of extras, then you’ll definitely want to have a look at the Nokia 2720.  It’s no Nexus One–though soon enough there will never be a Nexus One again–but it’ll do the job surprisingly ably.
