My favorite US cell phone carrier (not!!) strikes again. I was merely telling you yesterday evening how AT&T will offer cell phone insurance for most phones from cheaper to more expensive for just $5 plan/month.
But before you dip your phone into some hot cocoa after you ran it over with your car first, you’ll have to know there are some fine prints for this whole deal. First of all the plan is going to be available for all those customers buying a device now or for those that bought one no later than 30 days ago. Besides the monthly fee there’s a two deductible fees, not one as I was announcing yesterday; $50 for most of the phones and $125 for expensive smartphones and PDAs.
But guess what, the marvelous, much awaited, greatly debated iPhone isn’t covered. I guess Apple did a swell job with those iPhones. Why offer insurance, they must be indestructible!

[...] that was the release date. Now, if only we knew its price! Anyways, as we previously reported, the iPhone-cloning GPS-toting Samsung Instinct brings a big 3.1-inch touchscreen display, Sprint TV, and some [...]
You can protect your iPhone from being lost with Rewarding Return.
http://www.RewardingReturn.com
You put one of their recovery labels on the back of your iPhone, and if it gets lost, the finder knows they can return it to claim their reward. Plus rewarding return makes all the shipping arrangements and pays for all the shipping.
It’s seriously worth it walking around with a $500 iPhone in your pocket.
There is now a company that offers insurance for the iPhone that covers against loss, theft, breakage and water damage.
http://www.InsureYourPhone.com
Included with their policies is a Lost and Found program that provides you with a label for your phone so whomever finds it can return it at not charge to them, and they receive a reward as well.
NoFire: That company only seems to be offering insurance in a couple cities. You know when it’s going to be live everywhere?
I guess that does work for iPhones but it’s also $70/year
Water damage is definitely a concern, but I feel like I lose my phone more often than damager it - but maybe thats just me.
I feel more comfortable spending a couple bucks per year with http://www.RewardingReturn.com rather than $70/yr with the other insurance company. What’s everyone else think?
you’re not guaranteed to get it back with Rewarding Return like you would with insurance. And if the insurance includes return service if someone finds it and returns it, it covers both situations.
There’s no need for the fine print. I just insured my iPhone at Squaretrade (www.squaretrade.com/iphone) and there was no hassle. I just registered right through the website. There’s also a discount code on the website which is still going on so I used that to save even more money. I really like that they cover “spills, drops and water damage”. That piece of mind is worth it!
