How Many Zune Buyers are There?

|

zune_1.jpg
In case you don't know, Microsoft have sold just over 2 million Zunes already. That's like what, 1 Zune per year? Leaving jokes aside, Microsoft still haven't really made that much of an impression with this device. Last May they reached their first million and now, after an year, they sold one more million of Zune players. That places them just above Creative and lower than SanDisk and waaaaay below Apple.

Zune will never be an iPod that's clear, but it will always get some fans around the world. I am sure there are happy customers that enjoy at least this Microsoft product.

The unnamed player has a generous 4.8-inch WVGA touchscreen display and runs on WinCE 5.0 with a nice-looking carousel menu. The large display is great for watching videos and to provide a great browsing experience on its Polaris browser in full screen aided by its 802.11b/g WLAN connectivity. Turn the iPod Touch to an iPhone

|
ipodtouch-iphone.jpg
Who said the iPod Touch can't be an iPhone? Well, some really brilliant folks think it can. Lifehacker posted an article on how to transform your iPod Touch, into an iPhone. Well, not physically, but at least functionally.

However, it can't really do everything the iPhone can do. But what it can do, is place calls via VOIP using a freeware application called SIP-VOIP.

The article mentioned the things that you need. A jailbroken iPod touch, a Touchmod mic, and the freeware SIP-VoIP application.  All you really have to do is install the SIP-VOIP application, set up an SIP Account and setup SIP-VoIP to make your calls. Very easy huh? Well, for a more detailed instruction/tutorial, check out their article here.

vAMP Virtual Album MP3 Player: To Replace CDs altogether?

|

vamp1.jpg

Everybody in the music industry's moaning about the decline in sales. While it's true CD sales are declining, artists and studios still get a cut off of digital music sales. Music bars selling physical CDs however, can't do anything about the ever increasing popularity of digital music. Well, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, right? To address the issue, MediaStreet came up with the vAMP Virtual Album MP3 Player which aims to replace CDs off of music bars' racks. MediaStreet touts it as the "smallest, thinnest, fully functional MP3 player."

The concept is simple. Basically, the 0.7 ounce vAMP will sell preloaded with a whole album of an artist, with the album cover gracing the front of the MP3 player. Since the vAMP has a 1GB capacity, you can load it with other tracks of your choice. Other than that, anyone who buys the vAMP will also get access to both mydigitalcontent.com and BEYOND.FM. The vAMP will cost US$27.99 when preloaded with an album and US$19.99 when empty. I got a question for you though: If you already got a portable media player, would you really buy all your favorite artists' albums in vAMP players?

Belkin Rockstar: Music in a Hub

|

Belkin%20RockStar1.jpg Belkin%20RockStar2.jpg

When sharing music with friends, loudspeakers are of course, expected. But if for some reason you can't use a speaker system, then Belkin Rockstar makes it easier for you to share music with your friends. The device could be called a hub which features five ports where you can attach your headphones and MP3 players and one port that's hard-wired to your MP3 player. Meaning you can plug two or more players in and go crazy with the new remix. It seems like a fun idea, but with small speakers being available nowadays, we can't predict the how the public would take the Belkin Rockstar.

Belkin Rockstar would be showcased on Macworld 2008 next week (yes, it's iPod compatible) and will be available starting March for USD$19.99.

The New Altec Lansing T612 iPod/iPhone Docking System

|

Altec%20Lansing%20T612.jpg

Altec Lansing has showcased a new iPod and iPhone docking system in CES 2008 the Altec Lansing T612. Aesthetically speaking, the speaker system looks okay, nothing too spectacular but nothing too outrageous either. It features neodymium speakers with bass enhancement technology. What gets me sold on this model, however, is the extra features it offers. It has iPhone call support, meaning the music stops when an incoming call is received. It also has GSM shielding so potential noises would not be picked up. The dock works for the iPhone as well as the new iPod models. For older iPod models as well as other MP3 players, an auxiliary jack could be used. The system comes equipped with a remote control for volume adjustment and track control. It will be available on February '08 and will retail for USD$200.

More pics after the jump.
