Motorola i1 Cell Phone Review–Mostly Great Phone

A little something different to wrap up the week with, folks–today I’m introducing you to a new Motorola.  Today we’re talking about the Motorola i1, and it’s got a lot of surprise to it.

The Motorola i1 is a hardened smartphone, and offers what is described as military certification against blowing rain, dust, shock, vibration, extreme temperatures, low pressure environments, humidity, solar radiation, and once again the vaguely ominous threat of salt fog.  You’ll also get the Android operating system, the Swype text entering system that lets you drag your finger until you get a likely word, a variety of Google-specific applications, mobile web, mobile email, a five megapixel camera and a battery that yields three and a half hours of talk time on a single charge.

The downside to this phone, aside from the somewhat lower end battery, is that it’s currently running Android 1.5.  But that may well be fixable–I’ve heard they’re looking to make updates available, which is definitely a good thing and might take care one of the two major problems with this phone.

And there are lots of good points to this too–even the lower end of Android brings a lot of versatility to the table.  And the various environmental protections are welcome too.

It’s not hard to like the Motorola i1, because it’s got so much to offer.  It may have its flaws, but it’s got more than enough to make up for them.

The Good

Android OS offers lots of versatility

Decent controls

Great protection against most environmental conditions

The Bad

Lower end battery life

Older version of Android to start

Score 8 / 10
