We all cheered when Apple announced that its iTunes music was going to be DRM-free. But it looks like the whole free thing isn’t that simple. We’ve seen people reporting that only US customers will be offered the DRM-free music yesterday and now we hear that upgrading libraries is a little more complicated than it actually should be. iTunes might not offer upgrades to all your music and TV shows just yet. Upgrading the entire catalog of ten million songs will take until April according to Apple.

And if you did want to upgrade just some of your music you won’t be able to do it. The software will force you to upgrade every song you purchased which Apple has upgraded too. That’s weird right? I mean all of us have songs we listened to a couple of years ago but now we hate them. Why upgrade those too? Another annoying thing you will find are DRM-free albums. If you own a few tracks of a certain album and now you want to purchase the DRM-free album, you won’t be able to do so unless you upgrade the existing tracks. Promotional songs are also a problem. Some may appear and some may not appear in your upgrade list.

My advice to you is to stay put and start upgrading everything later. Maybe Apple will clear everything out soon.
