We have seen yesterday the Western Digital Mirror Edition, a great external hard drive which secure data backup or lots of storage space when needed. Today we are looking at Maxtor Black Armor, an external drive that is said to bring both security and storage space.
Let’s talk about security first. Maxtor Black Armor acts, like the name suggests it, as a safe box for all your data. The hardware has built in 128-bit government like encryption. That means that the common PC user like you and I can rest assured that their data is very safe. There’s a username and password to be set by the owner. And like this wasn’t enough, there’s a traveler mode which, when activated, will prevents thieves from deleting all you data if they steal it. Only your PC connected to a Black Armor drive in will be able to access it while in traveler mode.
As for storage there’s just an 160 GB version which is rather expensive, at $150. I guess that all that Maxtor security will cost you more than you would have expected.
