The Mac OS 10.6 called the Snow Leopard will be coming in about a year, but it was revealed to those attending the WWDC. From what we hear so far, the Snow Leopard is a silent hunter. It’s rather about efficiency and optimization then about adding more cool stuff to the existing version.
The Snow Leopard will be optimized for multi-core processors and it will be GPU friendlier. It will support lots of RAM and by lots I mean the 16TB lots. Safari will be about 50% faster than it is already and a QuickTime X platform is in the works. Better and better but boring.
Bertrand Serlet, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering said:
We have delivered more than a thousand new features to OS X in just seven years and Snow Leopard lays the foundation for thousands more. In our continued effort to deliver the best user experience, we hit the pause button on new features to focus on perfecting the world’s most advanced operating system.
Now how do I interpret this. Sure the OS X needs a few tweaks here and there, a new hair cut and a pair of boobs, but do you mean to tell me Apple is going to take a year to improve it without adding anything spectacular? Where’s that box people? You know, the one you’re always getting out of when you do your thinking? No more ideas?
In about 18 months Windows 7 is coming. Where’s Apple’s OS that Windows 7 should be based on? Are you guys keeping it secret? Is this Snow Leopard a base to further build on?
