LG VX5500 Cell Phone Review–Simplicity Above AllBy Steve Anderson - 03/03/2010 12:01:07 AM |
Every so often, it’s good to take a look at a phone that doesn’t have a lot of special features or options to it. Sometimes there’s such a rush to cram bells and whistles into absolutely everything that phones themselves get lost in the shuffle. And sometimes, a phone comes out with so very little attached to it that it’s noteworthy in and of itself. The LG VX5500 is exactly that kind of phone.
The LG VX5500 is a flip-style cell phone with speakerphone, mobile email, Bluetooth connectivity, hearing aid compatibility, a phone book with sufficient capacity for a thousand name and number listings, a VGA still-only camera (I can’t tell for the life of me what resolution the stupid thing has, and this even after checking LG’s official spec sheet!) GPS capability, a variety of downloadable content, voice command capability, and a battery that can generate a full five hours of talk time on a single charge.
While the phone’s layout is incredibly simple and accessible–a new user could probably learn all its ins and outs in a matter of days–the problem here is there simply aren’t that many ins and outs to learn in the first place. If you’re looking for a relatively simple phone with not a lot going on that you can learn in rapid fashion, then the LG VX5500 is going to be just the phone you want.
The Good
Nice aesthetics
Extremely easy to learn
The Bad
Not much there to learn about in the first place
Score 6 / 10
