LG Viewty Beats iPhone in Europe

There are some speculations about iPhone’s failure in the European market, particularly in the UK. According to the blog Dial-a-Phone, the announcement of LG Viewty that it sold 310,000 units in just 5 weeks means it is outselling the ultra-popular iPhone in Europe.
Apple, a company known for its marketing prowess and brilliant public relations, has remained mum on the performance of iPhone in this continent. In fact, it even blocked the iPhone sales figures captured by a UK research agency. This unusual behavior might indicate the company’s failure to meet its fearless forecast and duplicate the success iPhone is enjoying in the US market.
On the other hand, LG Viewty is believed to be on the right track because it has everything that iPhone does not have. These are availability in all major networks compared to exclusive arrangement of iPhone; significantly lower cost compared to iPhone; shorter contract (12 months vs. iPhone’s 18 months); and (arguably) it is a better phone.
Since the ever-brilliant Steve Jobs is very hard to predict, I say wait until the official iPhone figures are released before making any claims. Who knows, he might have the last laugh…again.
