The image sensors that will fit into a cell phone are just too small to support that many pixels. The only noticeable effect from increasing the number of pixels will be longer exposures, since each pixel will be smaller and thus take longer to accurately record the light that hits it. This is same reason why point-and-shoot cameras don't need more than 6 MP. The reason that companies like LG and Ericson are even talking about 12 MP cell phone cameras is because megapixel counts are a great way to market overpriced cameras.
