Korean Children Are Addicted to Texting
And you thought the 13-year-old girl who recently won the LG National Texting competition was hooked on text messaging?! It seems as though LG should really be taking their competition to Korea, where officials there have stated "Our children are seriously addicted to cell phones."
According to a recent study of Korean young adults and teenagers, teens between 15-19 sent 60.1 text messages a day, which is up from 59.5 messages per day in 2005. Young adults between the ages of 20 and 24 are also sending more text messages, but aren't quite as bad off as the youngsters. This age group sends 30.9 per day, versus 22.6/day in 2005. 85.3% of teens have a cell phone, while 97.3% of young adults have one.
Texting is such a problem in Korea that it's not uncommon for people to develop carpal tunnel resulting from their excessive text messaging habits.
