iSuppli lets us know how much it really costs for an iPad

Apple-iPad-001Every time a new tech product is revealed, there are always posts on tech blogs with dissections of them. The purpose is to find out just how much it costs to make these products, and the answer is never good for consumers.

For example, the sum of the iPhone 3GS is about $180, and it costs at least twice that much. The Apple people must be making a bundle with the profits on this product, and the same applies to the iPad.

* $95 touch-screen display (multitouch is pricey)
* $26.80 processor built by Samsung
* $29.50 16GB memory; $59 32GB memory; $118 64GB memory
* $10.50 aluminum back

It comes to a total of $259.60 in guts for the 16GB model, $289.10 in the 32GB model, and $348.10 in the 64GB model.

And how much does an iPad cost? Is it any wonder why Apple is so rich?
