Here’s one more robot that’s simply and efficiently being controlled via WiFi from a custom made app for iPhone. This isn’t Lego anymore, but more serious a device. iRobot’s Military Packbot is controlled real time by a simple iPhone application developed by two students from the University of South Florida.

There’s also full streaming POV video of course. You have to see where you’re going to be able to control your movement. The application uses the iPhone’s accelerometer for panning and zooming while touchscreen controls are used to indicate movement to the Packbot.

I don’t like how iPhone is getting ready for iWars. I’ve just seen an UAV controlled by the iPhone, and now this iRobot. What’s next? A tank maybe? Apparently others are interested in developing a software to control the Packbot. US Department of Energy’s Idaho National Lab have something in the works, if we are to believe some rumors.
