The buzz around today is the memorial held yesterday for the late King of Pop Michael Jackson. And if you browse this site a bit, you will recall I had posted an entry for the Pocket Cemetary app which curiously made use of Michael Jackson in its video and image for its press release.
The app has been hit for taking advantage of Jackson’s death to which the creator spoke out to defent the app:
“I’m shocked by the way some people can be so nasty and misguided, but I suppose that’s how they deal with grief and death. Ironically, that’s the point of Pocket Cemetery. Everyone deals with death differently. There’s no right or wrong answer. I created this phone application as a way to carry the memories of loved ones on my iPhone, but now some people are freaking out. It all started with creating a virtual memorial for my grandmother, and I’m sure she wouldn’t be happy to see all this controversy, especially when my intentions have been so good,” says Wayne Perry.
So as it may seem, Mr. Perry was indirectly stating that it was just coincidental. And he may be right since the app has been under development since April and was added to Apple’s “review cue” on June 23. It wasn’t approved for sale until July 5th, just after Michael Jackson’s death.
Now you may be wondering, why Michael Jackson was highlighted immediately. Folks, if you are in business, you know for a fact that you will get the best kind of attention and right now, the light Michael Jackson fit the bill. Dirty or not, this is business. If it was another well-known personality who passed away, you can bet he or she would be in the image and example released.
