You all knew this was bound to happen sooner or later! First we talk about the new iPhone 3GS, analyze its new features, compare it to any possible new launched phone, make fun of AT&T and Microsoft and then inevitably start talking about the iPhone 3GS jailbreak and unlock solution. While we don’t support such actions and while we do advise you to proceed with care when it comes to possibly voiding any warranties you have for your new iPhone 3GS, we still have to tell you what’s available and how it’s done. In the name of science of course!
So if you’re planning on unlocking and/or jailbreaking your new iPhone 3GS then you should only go to the trusted source. The iPhone Dev Team are currently working on it and it will probably release software solutions once it has figured out how the new iPhone OS 3.0 works. That’s right, we’re not telling you today where to go to download for free a certain jailbreak/unlock application since it’s not ready yet. We’re telling you to pay attention where you’re getting the supposed information or new software from. It seems that a bunch of guys out there are either making money on the iPhone Dev Team and/or offering virus-packed downloads. Here’s what the iPhone Dev Blog says:
Unfortunately, there are predators out there that are counting on your over-exuberance. Maybe we should call it yell0w fever. One very recent example is a certain yellowsn0w221 page on wordpress.com. Do not download anything from that page if you’re on a PC, else you’ll be infected with a virus. The page talks and talks about a supposed Firmware 2.2.1 yellowsn0w exploit, but it’s all a ruse to get you to download and infect your PC.

yea, cant wait to get it too man.
It look really cool.
AFAIK, the exploit to load a jailbroken firmware relies on a hardware vulnerability in the iPhone 3G. Wouldn’t it make sense that the vulnerability would be fixed in the 3GS thus prompting another cycle of cat/mouse and a longer wait for a 3GS jailbreak?
How long from now will the jailbreak come out for the 3GS?
@Jay Unfortunately, that is like asking a construction worker how long it will take to build a house that currently has no plans drawn-up. There’re really know way to know.
Currently, the dev team is relying on an exploit in the actual hardware of the iPhone 2G and 3G. It is very likely that Apple took measures to fix this exploit with the 3GS, and thus the dev team will need to discover a new exploit. This of course, could take time. All you can do is wait patiently and when a reliable jailbreak is created, the dev team will release it.

Listen all… Apple does NOT care if you jailbreak your iPhone, why would they? They got paid, and you “could” void the warrenty. Why would they care, think about it. Now here in the US, there is only one company that doesnt want you to jailbreak, that being AT&T. Less customers, due to unlocking with yellowsn0w, the ones they keep, like me, tethering for free, later this summer they will be offering tething of the iPhone for a fee. I say a-l-l that to show you, apple doesnt really care, and are not going to make it harder for a jailbreak. Apple is feed up with AT&T as it is, look at all the jabs Apple took at them during the Keynote for the WWDC. I give it a week tops before the new jailbreak is out.

Ok people help me out here!
You unlock your iphone so you can use other SIM cards right? Is that the only reason? I presume you owners are under a contract since the 3Gs is pretty new…
Because I don’t understand….why do you want to bother and unlock your iphone (ex. 3G S) when you are more or less still bound to a contract with ex. AT&T and you have to pay those (for ex.) 24 months anyway, and still you wanna put in another SIM which you have to pay for as well…am I totally wrong here?? What am I missing??
To jailbreak it…that I can understand!!! but not the unlock…
