Yes folks, it’s that time of the year. Apple has a brand new iPhone firmware, version 3.0 which is filled with features. All we need now is a new iPhone version. Let’s take a look at those new features then!
Copy/Cut & Paste is here. Double-tap on any piece of text and you will get a cut, copy and paste bubble dialog. Double-tap again and a paste bubble will appear if there’s anything in the clipboard. The application is available for copy and pasting photos too.
The landscape keyboard is also official. You can write anything you want in landscape now.
Peer-to-peer WiFi connectivity will allow two iPhones to connect directly without the need of an actual WiFi network.
A new API will let you use your iPhone or iPod touch to control peripherals. Maps will be used inside other applications as Maps is now an API. Turn by turn directions will also be available. Developers will be able to create turn-by-turn applications using the iPhone GPS and combining it with any maps without actually needing a 3G connectivity or Google.
iPhone 3.0 will also bring us that much needed push notification. Voice over IP and voice communication will be used in any application starting with this iPhone OS. Auto recording will be possible and accessing music from applications will also be now available.
As for the App Store, the new OS will bring new possibilities too. You’ll be able to subscribe to apps, purchase additional content for apps or additional levels for games.
What do you think? Happy with all these new features?

I am so tired of hearing people say, “well it should have been there from the beginning,” or “Yah the iPhone is the greatest device out there but it should have this____.” After 10 years in the mobile telecommunication industry I can say that no phone has ever came out that completely met the feature demand of every person. And less than 1% percent of phones have ever released software/firmware that added the level of functionality that the iPhone does for free. If your talking about standard features such as MMS that has been on every phone (even the crap free ones you get from providers) for the past 5 years, then trust in the fact that there must have been a reason why Apple did not include this functionality. The fact that there are over 30 million people using the iPhone OS, and it is the most widely sold mobile device in History, I think they know what they are doing. Every time I hear about a new firmware that delivers new features (like 2.0 app store) I just shake my head and say my goodness how amazing of a company to give this for free, when they could easily charge for it, and people would pay. The fact that Motorola, LG, Nokia and Blackberry release new devices every 6months-1 year that has just a few things better than the previous device and charge stupid amounts of money for them; states that they can care less if parts of their devices didn’t work well, or lacked features when they shipped it, they’ll just add it to the next model and suck money from the consumes. My point: understand the industry trends and history, before judging the worlds most highly used device by a company who just a few years ago didn’t have any footprint in mobile phones and now is a leader of the industry (per revenue, look it up). I am not an Apple fan boy, in-fact this is the first Apple product I have every owned, I’m a PC guy. Just feel the need to put uninformed whiners in their place. Do your homework before comparing iPhone OS to any other OS. Most have been making OS for Mobile Devices for a decade and still cant get it right, while the other new ones, basically copied the iPhone OS. Too answer the questions asked: 3.0 FIRMWARE IS AMAZING, 100 FEAUTURES, FOR FREE, enough said.

Who says its going to be for free?
Rumor has it, 3.0 will be the new OS for the NEW IPHONE.
Just a rumor but I wouldn’t be suprised.
What about A2DP? I can’t believe a phone that was born from a music playing device doesn’t have bluetooth stereo. Yes you can buy the little dongle, but seriously my GF’s crappy little flip phone supports A2DP. The iPhone is a great device. I love all the apps, but the omission of such simple things like cut and paste, MMS and stereo bluetooth is VERY annoying.
