Huawei Handset Debuts in the U.S.

Chinese telecom giant Huawei has breached the U.S. handset market with its entry level clamshell cellphone M318 model in partnership with MetroPCS. The company hopes to replicate the success it currently enjoys in the European and Asian markets. Its low-cost strategy coupled with several GSM/UMTS network deals across the globe makes it an imminent threat among wireless vendors today.
M318 is one of the CDMA phones of Huawei equipped with very simple features such as WAP browser and BREW client application. Do not expect too much for this is just an entry level handset. In fact, it does not even have a camera and Bluetooth.
This is a common strategy employed by major Asian manufacturers in any industry perhaps to test the American waters. Huawei has a rather deep product portfolio in Asia which will likely appear in the U.S. market soon.
