It seems that everyday a different manufacturer comes forth to announce their own tablet/slate iPad competitor but we have yet to see one materialize and actually hit the market. One such device that came arguably the closest to making its way to market was the much hyped HP Slate.

While featuring a similar for factor to the iPad, the HP Slate featured some highly sought after features that Apple’s device did not. This included a 1.6GHz processor, a full gigabyte of RAM, and most importantly front and rear facing cameras in addition to a USB port. Unfortunately, for Slate hopefuls, the project was rumored to be discontinued due to poor consumer reception.

However, HP has come forth today to let us know that Slate development is still in process and that it is currently undergoing consumer evaluation. However, there’s no telling if it will actually make it’s way to market and if it actually does, when.

Although, seeing how Microsoft is expected to market Windows 7 as a premiere tablet operating system, it would be safe to assume that if it materializes, the HP Slate will be a frontrunner in the push.
