Remember the free 200 SMS messages which came with the original iPhone? Did they come in handy? I suppose so. Too bad they will not be available for free with the 3G iPhone anymore. AT&T probably decided they needed to charge $5 for those 200 messages. Not that much but still an unpleasant move. Well do you want to know how you can send free SMS messages from your 3G iPhone?
Here’s a trick we found showing up over the web. What you need to do is create a new email address. When composing the message make sure you complete the “To:” field with the number you want to send the SMS to like this: 1234567890@teleflip.com. Send the message and it will be delivered to the number before the @ symbol. All replies will be sent to your email address.
I don’t know if this actually works, but if it does, could it be used from any device connected to the Internet? This trick is available for American and Canadian numbers for now so don’t try it at home if you’re reading this in Hong Kong.
Alternatively there’s a web application which will send free SMS messages for you. It’s TxtDrop if you need it!
