Sony Shows Two New VAIO X Models
Sony has unveiled two new VAIO X Models at this week's Ceatec Japan 2005 Exhibition. The two new systems are the VAIO X Living and the VAIO X Video Station. The VAIO X Living is essentially a PC targetd for the living room while the VAIO X Video Station is a huge multi-tuner video storage device capable of recording up to 8 different channels at once.
The VAIO X Living is also known as the VGX-XL70S and comes in a stereo component styled chassis. The unit comes with one analog and one digital tuner, single or dual 500GB Hard Drives, and a wireless keyboard and mouse. Having dual tuners means that the VAIO X Living is capable of recording up to two shows at the same time. For a Home Theater oriented PC, it doesn't use Microsoft's Windows Media Center Edition OS but rather Windows XP Home.
The VAIO X Video Station (also known as the VGX-XV80S) is for those who have to watch nearly everything that is being shown on TV. It can have up to EIGHT analog TV tuners and can accomodate up to four hard drives for a grand total of 2 Terabytes of storage. The X Video Station isn't actually a PC so you can't sit in front of it and view video content recorded on it. The idea is to use the X Video Station as a video server to other PC's or client applications which would then call up the video over a network.

These new VAIO X systems are cheaper than the original models that they are replacing. The VAIO X Living will run you about $1600 while the VAIO X Video Station can be had for $1300. All these prices include a single 500GB Hard Drive. You want more space? Be prepared to shell out even more cash.
Currently the VAIO X lineup is only available in Japan. You can not get the VAIO X in the United States.
