Macpower Digital Media Gateway DMG8
At first glance, it's easy to confuse the new Macpower Digital Media Gateway DMG8 as a modified Apple Mac mini. However, it's actually an embedded Linux powered PC that acts as an "appliance-like link between PC's, TVs and stereos". What this basically sounds like is a Home Theater PC system.
The DMG8 comes with a 3.5" hard drive, on board Ethernet support, and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth wireless networking support. What's particularly interesting is the 1080i/720p video playback support which is a great feature for those of you who have Hi-Definition displays. What isn't clear is what kind of processor is actually inside the DMG8. If the system is as small as it looks on the website, then the unit would require a low power processor to keep the ambient heat down.
Other Hi-Fi features include support for Dolby Digital 5.1 audio and support for WMV9 and DivX video. For more information, check out the product page at Macpower.com via eHomeUpgrade.com
