Mark, can you share more on this monitor? I intend to buy it pretty soon. How's backlight? What about actual impressions on game play/ internet browsing etc.?

Yeh i would love to hear more comments... This monitor has been out a month and I have yet to see and expert independant reviews or meaningful user reviews...
Well i found one user review but they guy admitted he was some 3D application freak who probably could never be satisfied

Just got this and I must say..WOW
At first I thought it was too big but im getting used to it.
Sharp, bright, user friendly, great monitor at a decent price. I am a Gamer and if you have a game that supports this resolution (World of Warcraft comes to mind) you will enjoy it. If not its only drawback is it reminds you ever 3 to 5 min to set it to 1600X1050.
Still I would not trade it for any other product currently out there.
Cheers

Just ordered mine. I'll tell more when I get it in about week. I'm going from a 21" Viewsonic crt due to space limitations.

Have you seen this before? It's a number guessing game: http://www.amblesideprimary.com/ambleweb/mentalmaths/guessthenumber.html. I guessed 53485, and it got it right! Pretty neat.

There is a flaw with the EzTune software that comes with the monitor; it conflicts with many videocards out there and apparently Gateway says it is not their responsibility due to that it is a third party.

The reminder about the resolution can be turned off in the option menu.

I'm interested in buying this monitor for a MAC G-5 computer. Has anyone had experience using this monitor with a Mac? I've called Gateway's tech support and am unable to find out if all the advertised features are available for the mac.
thank you,
M

hey guys
ive seen this monitor and used it for a small period of time. i have to say, it is absolutely amazing. the price....if you have a costco near you you can pick it up for about 540 or so. however i heard that someone at best buy was able to...with coupons of course to get one for less than 450.
BOB-you should have no problem running this screen with a G5 so long as the G5 has a acceptable graphic card to be able to render at high resolutions such as 1680x1050. i dont know about software support for the EzTune though...i would assume that probably wont work.
the one thing i CAN tell you guys is that the cost(not the price we pay...but the cost to a retailer) for one of these is about 520-540 so if you can get that price that means either the manufacturer isn't making much or they messed up their pricing...either way...SNAG IT :)
if you guys have anymore questions/comments...head over here. we have a long thread going on about this particular monitor and you'll be able to find a LOT of good information there to help you decide if you want this monitor or not.
i love this monitor. i think its going to be my christmas gift for myself this year :)
hope this helps :)

Anyone looking for a better price.. I used a Office Depot coupon code for $30.00 off of $150.00 + current free shipping. I also signed up for the Office depot Advantage card (No Cost) and will receive a $50.00 gift card from Office Depot. So $599.00 -$30.00 - $50.00 + free shipping makes it $519.00. Still not bad!
Hope it helps someone...Looks like a win win...

Wellthe price even got better.. Office Depot had one business day shipping. But as we all know that didn't make it on time. So I called and complained to Office Depot. I was told it would be there two days later that they needed three days.. Well it didn't make it. So I called customer care and they were real nice and gave me another $30.00 off due to the mix up. The next day I was promised the monitor.. Guess? No delievery again. This time which just so happens was the third time it should had arrived the date of delievery was changed again. I called customer service and this time they gave me an additinal $60.00 off and said it was on the truck for delievery on 12/23/05. I quess at this point I hope they fail again and I might get a even sweeter deal.. But at this point I'm only going to wind up paying $459.00 plus tax. Is this a good deal on the Gatewat 21 inch lcd. Is it worth waiting for? Kip

When we first brought it home and installed it, it worked beautifully. One evening someone decided to download a game demo from the internet which ended up somehow screwing everything up so that the resolution is off and the EZTUNE is stuck on "Options" tab and so it can't be changed. Tech support only told us what we already knew (after asking us questions several times to which we had ALREADY given an answer). WONDERFUL monitor, until you hit some kind of bug... and it's true.. unless you have a complete gateway system, tech support doesn't really seem to (know how to/want to?) help.

For ALL you Mac USERS!!!
I'm using the Gateway FPD2185W with a G5 iMac 17" in dual screen mode and the whole thing works perfectly using the VGA input as well as a DVD player (1080i Upconvert) using the DVI port, an Xbox 360 using the component cables, a PS2 using the composite input and finally...my cable connection thru the S-Video input.
Anyway you look at it... it's a Diamond of a screen!

This is a fantastic monitor and for what you get the price is worth it. I got mine for $530 because Circuit City had an online special with pick up in store. The CC where I live did not have any in stock so I went to BestBuy across the street and they honored the discount since they have a pick up in store policy. The EzTune software is the worst. It just doesn't work on my system and I have the latest graphics card. If you went 599 + a replacement warranty (good idea) then a monitor calibrator is a good investment. I purchased the Spyder2 Pro Studio. It's 260 but you can get whatever companies external device you choose but get one. Great for photo, video or gaming. That's just my opinion.

Use the Screen on Mac Laptop G4 1Ghz. Works perfect with DVI and VGA... good value. Nothing like it I've seen at this price. (I have a second one in a box that I will un pack soon) Here is the question. Can the 90 degree twist be used in with a MAC the Ez Tune soft ware seems PC only. Anyone have a fix?

Think twice before installing the EZTune software. Love the LCD screen, but the EZTune software TOTALLY HOSED my mouse and keyboard functions - what a nightmare! I couldn't even use the F8 key to get into safe mode. Had to force shutdown with the power supply switch a few times to get WinXP to boot up in safe mode and allow me to uninstall EZtune -- and even that process was unusually slow. I've been installing boards, software, etc. for 20 years, but never had anything this bad occur after installing a new app. When I called Gateway Tech Support I got the "Sorry, but we can't help you since you don't own a Gateway tower" (however, I do have the nVidia video card that Gateway sells online...). Anyway, I can live without the vertical screen and EZTune app, but I'm thinking of returning the product to Best Buy on principle -- what kind of company tells you tough luck that your PC no longer works after installing their software and spending ~$670 (tax + DVI cable) the night before on their monitor... I'm also tempted to invoice Gateway for the hours I wasted trying to get my PC back up.
