Do you want to go online from your laptop through your 3G iPhone? Well that’s not possible yet. Officially that is. But unofficially that is possible although it implies getting yourself into some potential trouble as you will be definitely be breaking some terms of service.
If AT&T gets a hold of what you were doing, you are likely to have your account terminated. What you need to do is hack your 3G iPhone. Jailbreak it for now with iPhone Dev Team’s Pwnage Tool 2.0.1 (yes there’s a new version released today, as the first Pwnage Tool 2.0 had some bugs).
After jailbreaking the iPhone simply install 3Proxy and Terminal. With your laptop you can create a WiFi network and join it with your iPhone. Once you found the iPhone’s IP address, open Terminal and run the proxy program. Then open Safari on your iPhone and open a web page. The last thing to do is to configure your laptop’s browser to use the proxy. And there you have it. The 3G iPhone works as a modem now. Illegal but useful (the link bellow leads you to a detailed how-to iPhone tethering tutorial).
