While the browser on the Android platform is based on the same WebKit as Google Chrome, the new browser released by Google, we won’t know how good it will perform until a device is available commercially to check it out. But what if Chrome was ported over to Android? I have been using the Chrome for the last two days and have loved every second of it, mainly because of its simple, no-nonsense attitude towards browsing, and many of its other features that we have talked about before.
Although Google Chrome and Android were developed individually, chances are that a future Android version might come with the Chrome included. Speaking at the launch event for Google Chrome on Tuesday, here’s what Google’s co-founder Sergey Brin had to say:
We have not wanted to bind one’s hands to the other’s. Probably a subsequent version of Android is going to pick up a lot of the Chrome stack. My guess is we’ll have ‘Chrome-like’ or something similar.
If Android’s Chrome is anything like the PC version that many are already adopting as their primary browser, Google could rule the roost not only on the PC, but also on the diminutive-screened cell phones that we have come to rely on for our communications.
