Germany to Nokia: Hell Hath no Fury Like a Country Scorned
Remember that news about Finnish mobile phone company, Nokia, fleeing out of Germany? During that time, reports indicate that the company and the leaders of the 2,300 erstwhile workers who suddenly saw themselves jobless were arranging an amicable settlement. Amicable would be the last word I can use for what's happening right now. The Germans are enraged, accusing Nokia of "caravan capitalism," and going so far as to vowing to replace their Nokia handsets.
Union leaders called for Nokia products boycott and politicians jumped on the bandwagon--Social Democrats head, Peter Struck, and Horst Seehofer, Consumer and Agriculture Minister, are reportedly replacing their Nokia handsets. Nokia's decision to leave Germany would apparently strike a blow to the country's telecommunications sector.
Outside the Nokia plant in Bochum Germany, a crying worker named Patsiou Dimitva was spotted saying, "All our hope has died. Only a miracle can help us now but I don't think there will be any."
