Garmin has finally revealed its GPS lineup for CES 2008 and there are plenty of options to choose from. One of them is the nüvi 5000, a humongous unit with a 5.2-inch touchscreen display and a host of other interesting features.
Obviously built for larger vehicles, it packs an MP3 player, audiobook player, and some games with more games to come in the future. Music can be loaded via an SD card and the unit is compatible with audible.com for all audiobook needs. Owners will have the ability to subscribe to MSN Direct enabling them to receive up-to-date content about traffic, fuel prices, weather reports, stocks, etc. Another option is the FM Traffic Message Channel, which provides traffic information across the USA and some European countries.
“The nuvi 5000 is ideal for those with larger vehicles that need navigation on a big screen” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “With its easy-to-use interface and route planning features, it puts drivers in total control of the road.”
The driver can get turn-by-turn instructions complete with automatic rerouting if a turn is missed and also route calculation. The nüvi 5000 can save up to 10 routes and users can create custom points of interest on the preloaded maps.
According to Garmin, this unit will be priced at $799 and will hit the North American Shores in February before going on to the European markets in the second quarter of 2008.
