It’s not everyday that we get to talk about a GPS gadget for airplanses. The G600 has been approved by the FAA which means it will be available for 785 various models of normal and utility category aircraft, including twin combustion engine and turbo-prop engine aircraft up to 12,500 pounds.
The G600 will offer you two displays. It will pick up flight data like attitude, weather, terrain and traffic. The navigation details and the terrain data will all be displayed in an intuitive pictorial format on those dual LCD displays.
Gary Kelley, Garmin’s vice president of marketing says:
Some of the biggest benefits of the G600 are very difficult to describe with traditional marketing specs. Once a pilot sits in a G600 equipped aircraft, they’ll be amazed at the situational awareness that comes from having the PFD and MFD directly in front of the left seat. The G600 is the first time pilots have such a large MFD available in their primary field of view
The G600 will be integrate with Garmin’s panel mount WAAS GPS products. It will replace the traditional mechanical gyroscope with Garmin’s solid state Attitude and Heading Reference System or AHRS which is very reliable and accurate and will adjust very fast while moving. The PFD display will increase the pilot’s attitude indication by 50% over a traditional 3 inch attitude indicator. The system will interface with most general aviation autopilots and it will provide GPS horizontal steering data for flying arcs, procedure turns and holding patterns.
The MFD will show the pilot a picture of where the plane is relative to terrain, airspace, weather and traffic. Garmin’s SafeTaxi feature will provide pilots detailed diagrams of over 850 airports which will let them navigate at ease in unfamiliar zones. Garmin’s FliteCharts is also included and it will show all NACO Departure Procedures (DP), Standard Terminal Arrival Routes (STARs), approach charts, and airport diagrams on the MFD.
Weather updates are available through XM WX Satellite Weather for the USA through Garmin’s GDL 69 or 69A. NEXRAD, METARs, TAFs, TFRs, winds aloft, echo tops, precipitation type at the surface, lightning strikes, storm-cell data, AIRMETs, and SIGMETs will be all displayed so pilots will be able to make informed decisions while flying.
Want one for your plane? You will have to pay only $29,995. Quite a bargain right? You will get the GDU 620 display/control unit, GRS 77 AHRS, GDC 74A digital air data computer, GMU 44 tri-axial magnetometer, GTP 59 temp probe, and the required leveling brackets.
