Aera is the name of the new GPS made by Garmin, and it is a bit different from the others because it’s made for people that own a car + an aircraft.
The Garmin Aera features a 4.3-inch screen and besides the “road” mode it also has an “air” mode that displays information such as the weather, HSI/panel, nearest, WPT info, position, XM radio, and more.
In total there are 4 models:
- aera 500 which is the basic version and costs $800
- aera 510 priced at $1300 but supports XM WX and GXM™ 40 antenna
- aera 550 boasting high resolution 9 arc second terrain/obstacle data, SafeTaxi, AOPA, for $1500.
- aera 560 at $2000
