Samsung's Leading-Edge 512Mb GDDR3 Graphics Memory Powers Xbox 360 Consoles

Samsung Electronics, well known for its leadership in semiconductor, telecommunication, digital media and digital convergence technologies, todat announced that it is providing the new 512Mb GDDR3(Graphics Double-Data-Rate 3) Graphics Memory for Xbox 360 console.


With a speed of 700MHz, the 512Mb GDDR3 will transmit data at a whooping rate of 5.6GBps (gigabytes per second) per chip, which is 3.5 times faster than the memory used in the first Xbox. What it means is , the Xbox 360 will provide eight times the capacity of the first Xbox. With this high detailed textures can be stored that depict life-like images. With higher transmission speeds, the chip has what it takes for expanded image processing for storing electronically formatted photos, music, movies and other compressed video files.


The Samsung graphics memory is built on industry-leading 90 nanometer(nm) process technology using 300 millimeter (mm) wafers. The Xbox 360 will be the first system that will use the new GDDR3-chip to a larger amount. Microsoft are certainly provided with highest quality graphics memory, while meeting the Xbox 360's challenging high-volume production requirements. With this chip Microsoft are all set tp provide Xbox 360 owners the best overall gaming and entertainment experience.
