One of the previously reported problems with the first iPhone was the inability to fully erase all your personal data from your phone. Imagine your iPhone being stolen with all your private data. I am talking about passwords, online banking accounts, company emails. Same thing if you wanted to sell your first generation iPhone. You’d have to go through a lot of trouble to erase some of that sensitive data.
The iPhone Software v2.0 will apparently have an integrated method of deleting all that personal data and settings from your iPhone. You won’t have to go copying more and more music and videos to cover your tracks. That was an unofficial and undependable method used before. Now there’s a similar function to your Mac’s “Secure Empty Trash” which will wipe all your data for good.
The whole deletion process will take up to an hour on an 8GB iPhone so better turn on your power adapter. And in case it will get stolen there’s also a remote wipe option, which will hopefully be a lot faster.
Feel safer yet? The iPhone Software v2.0 will be available for free on July 11th. Simply downloaded it from Apple’s iTunes.
