Folks, I’m downright amazed by what I’m about to tell you about today.  The folks out at Chinavasion, who have already supplied me with a cell phone that comes with a television set inside it, sent me out today’s review target, the Fortaleza Quad Band Watchphone.

And before the inevitable question comes up, yes, this IS the Dick Tracy Two Way Wrist Communicator that every kid in the forties wanted to get their hands on.

The Fortaleza Quad Band is a cell phone watch cast in stainless steel, and is a quad-band phone that’s also weatherproof.  It includes a headset mic and Bluetooth headset, FM radio, music and video player, a gig of onboard memory, a watch, a 640×480 resolution camera that shoots both digital stills and video, and a battery capable of offering three hours of talk time on a single charge.

Apparently, this is one of fully ten different models of cell phone wristwatch offered by Chinavasion.  And admittedly, this sucker is a bit on the bulky side, especially for wearing on the wrist.  But still, this is an absolutely incredible piece of retro tech.  I showed this sucker to my folks, who were kids not long after Dick Tracy’s heyday and they were just astonished.

And indeed, for a cell phone designed to be worn on the wrist like a particularly chunky wristwatch, this offers an incredible array of features that perform pretty well under the circumstances.  Granted, the video player is choppier than the ocean in a hurricane, but the FM radio sounds pretty nice, and so does the audio player.

The Fortalena Quad Band is, all things considered, a pretty sweet cell phone watch, and the fact that I can even say that gives this thing serious points for uniqueness of design.
