20 Jul 08 First Apple Store Opened in China

With the Olympics arriving in about two months, Apple is ready to hit China. Its first Apple store was just officially opened in Beijing’s newest Village at Sanlitun.

The Chinese Apple store isn’t visible from outside the Sanlitun complex, but once inside the inner court, you won’t miss the Apple. It’s a three-story building with two visible stores and a third level covered with stainless steel

Inside the store you’ll find all the regular Apple products and the famous Genius Bar where experienced Apple support staff will answer most of your questions. The only thing that’s not there yet is the iPhone of course, which China doesn’t yet have.

So while in China, might as well go to that Sanlitun Apple store.

[...] China is the major market in the world for basically anything. With a good product and a good marketing campaign, your company can make lots of money of the Chinese market. In the cell phone business that appears to be the case. It looks like the total number of mobile subscribers in China has gone up significantly and it reached 616.02 million subscribers by the end of August. That’s twice the population of the USA. Even Europe doesn’t have as many cell phone users as China. That number is only 45.6% of the whole population which means more and more subscribers will join Chinese carriers looking for mobile services. The number of cell phone users grew by 1.26% per month or 19.46% per year according to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The number of fixed landlines users is a little over half of the number of mobile subscribers. 354.07 million people use traditional phones. [...]
