Everex CloudBook Ultra-Mobile PC at CES
After Samsung, it is now Everex's turn to get some exposure in the ultra-mobile PC sector at CES. It has unveiled the CloudBook UMPC CE1200V, which unlike many of its competitors, runs the open-source Google OS as opposed to Windows XP or Vista Tablet Editions.
Spec-wise, it maintains its decency for a UMPC with a 1.2GHz Via C7-M ULV mobile processor, 512MB of DDR2 533MHz memory, a 7-inch WVGA TFT display with a resolution of 800 x 480, VIA UniChrome Pro IGP graphics, VIA High-Definition Audio, and WiFi in its 802.11b and g flavors. Other features worth mentioning are its touchpad, 2 USB 2.0 ports, a DVI port, 4-in-1 media card reader, headphone/microphone ports, and a set of built-in stereo speakers.
It runs off a 4-cell L-ion battery and averages about 5 hours of battery life.
Coming to its operating system, the CloudBook runs gOS Rocket, an open-source Linux distribution and the UMPC comes preloaded with most of your favorite Linux applications like the Mozilla Firefox, gMail, Meebo, Skype, Wikipedia, GIMP, Blogger, YouTube, Xing Movie Player, RythemBox, Faqly, Facebook, and OpenOffice.org 2.3.
"The overwhelming success of our gPC desktop generated countless
inquires from customers seeking additional Open Source mobile platforms,"
states John Lin, general manager of Everex. "With the launch of the new
CloudBook our vision remains the same: Provide mainstream users with their
favorite applications wrapped in a no-compromise, low-cost, consumer
friendly product."
The CloudBox CE1200V will be available for $399 at Walmart.com beginning January 25, 2008.
