Remember that June 18th deadline for getting a Dell laptop/notebook with that cool, close to perfect, Windows XP? Well if you just missed it and you’re thinking of getting a ripped off version when your new Vista packed Dell PC arrive then just hold that thought for now.
Dell is offering a XP upgrade from Vista. Yeah, didn’t you hear about it? XP is all about the future, Vista is so 2007. How it works? When you get a new computer Dell has to pack a Vista copy with it. That’s how they keep Microsoft pleased I guess. But you can order a Windows XP copy installed. That whole deal will add a $50 to your purchase price. Make that close to $100 if you get a more expensive Vista version. And since you are on a spending spree throw in $100 more for a couple gigs of RAM.
Microsoft is making the full line of Windows Vista the primary operating system for new PCs. However, customers who are buying a new PC have an opportunity from Dell to buy a Dell PC with Windows XP Professional preinstalled and receive a Windows Vista installation disc. This gives customers the option of running XP now and transitioning to Vista when they’re ready.
That’s Dell’s excuse. And God knows that I am not emotionally ready to go to Vista yet! I’m only afraid that not every system out there is eligible for an XP upgrade!
