Seagate Delivers New Family of Barracuda Drives with up to a Massive Half Terabyte of Capacity and Fast 3 Gbit/Second Serial ATA Interface
Seagate has introduced its ninth generation Barracuda drive called the Barracuda 7200.9 which includes a new whopping 500GB model and 3 Gigabit SATA technology.
The Barracuda 7200.9 drives come in storage capacities ranging from 40GB upwards to 500GB with cache sizes varying from 2 to 16MB. Parallel and Serial ATA versions are both available for the new drives. The drive family also supports the 3 Gigabit Native Command Queueing (NCQ) interface which can deliver improved throughput.
The MSRP for the new 7200.9 drives include $61 for the 40GB parallel drive, $75 for the 80GB SATA drive, and $429 for the 500GB SATA drive. The new drives will be shipping in November.
