External CD/DVD burners are usually as good as the power adapter that comes with it. This unfortunately takes away the portability of the supposedly portable device.

That's why we take with a breath of fresh air Plextor's latest announcement the PX-608U, a slim and lightweight, DVD±R/W eternal drive. Despite its size this device still packs a punch with Dual Layer writing capabilities, multi-format DVD-RAM capability and high speed USB 2.0 data transfer.

The drive supports the following speeds: CD-R/RWs read and write - 24x; DVD±R write - 8x; DVD±RW write - 6x; Dual Layer DVD±R write - 4x and DVD-RAM write - 5x.

No price has been specified yet for the device but Plextor says it should be available at least in Europe by this month. More information can be found on the Plextor Europe site.
